eat, drink, and be ambulatory......go mom!

mashed potatoes, jell-o, vegetable soup, applesauce.....

things are getting better on the eating front for my mother.  she managed to eat a variety (although not much of any one) of foods today.  she even kept them down! this is the road home for her in the coming days.  her nurse got her up and around various times today so she is working on mobility as well.

they checked her liver and that seemed to be ok and now they are checking her gall bladder.  she has been given, pretty much, a full overhaul while she's been in the hospital.  while she has encountered many hurdles along the way, i don't think any one of them is all that uncommon.  i do think, however, that her having so many of them is not the normal course of events for patients in her situation.

hopefully, tomorrow she eats more and moves around more.  i think she might be getting a visit from some of her friends tomorrow.  we'll see.  with her blood numbers up (and her immune system), she will become more welcoming of visitors.  shoot me an email if you want to ask....

while she is still not in the clear, we are seeing positive signs and keep ruling out other serious side effects.  as i mentioned, they did an ultrasound of her gall bladder today.  we'll see what tomorrow brings on that front.

thanks for the continued prayers.  they are definitely working!  each day my mom becomes a little more like her "old" self.  (watch what you wish for - wink)

  1. Dear Char,
As a kid, did you ever read any “Uncle Wiggley” books? If so, you’ll remember that at the end of each chapter, there would be some totally ridiculous hypothesis about the antics of the characters which could potentially keep the story from progressing well in the next chapter. Wondering about and dreading those teasing possibilities made it impossible not to go on to the next chapter right then, and it was always a relief when none of the nonsense happened.
Honest to Pete (who is Pete, anyway?), I have that same anticipation about Timmie Jimmie’s posts every day, but unfortunately, can’t just hurry on to the next chapter to find out what happens. It’s as if he’s writing a mystery, and at the end of each chapter, he gives you something more to wonder (and yes, worry) about until the subsequent posts reveal the outcomes. (Folks who know me know I usually read the end of a book before I start it, so if I don’t think it ends well, I don’t read it in the first place.)
So…to one and all, you can see I’m running out of patience myself (can’t imagine how you all feel) and am ready for the “everything worked out in the end,” “they lived happily ever after,” “the butler did it, and is no longer a threat,” or “off they rode into the sunset” conclusion to Char’s saga. I like hearing more about the menus and sightseeing forays (albeit with a walker or cane for a while) and less about the chemo, CT scans, and blood counts. Keep eliminating the worrisome possibilities so the story can continue progressing in the right direction.
Eat your veggies, Char, (OMG, I wish I could give you my appetite!) and keep up getting up. We love you and will keep up the prayers.
